Hi my name is Jess Zylstra. I am currently a Sophomore Musical Theatre major in the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music with a minor in business administration in the Lindner College of Business.
I was born in Sydney Australia and lived there until I moved to Cincinnati in the fall of 2019.
I feel very lucky to have grown up so close to the water surrounded by some of the world’s most beautiful beaches!
CCM’s musical theatre program was the first program of its kind in the US and continues to be a leader in the performance industry with many alumni working on Broadway and beyond. I love to be on-stage and I have certainly taken advantage of all opportunities I have been given at CCM to do this. In the fall of 2019 I made my main stage debut in CCM’s production of 42nd Street. The costumes, sets, lighting and overall production were phenomenal!
One thing I have really enjoyed about living in the US is the different seasons. I particularly love the fall time and have learned to love the cold winters. We don’t get a lot of snow in Australia, so it is always special to wake up to fresh snowfall here in Cincinnati. Speaking of snow…one of my favorite hobbies is skiing. I have enjoyed traveling to ski resorts with friends and family while I have been living in the US.
During my time at UC I have enjoyed getting involved in the ‘typical American college experience’ by going to football games, living in on-campus dorms and eating in the dining halls. I have met an incredible group of friends from all over the US and the world and I am excited for many more exciting experiences during my time here at UC!
